Course Description

Cloud computing has transformed how software is built, deployed, and operated. AWS is the dominant cloud provider, and even teams using Azure or Google Cloud benefit from understanding the AWS service model. This course gives you a clear, practical foundation.

You’ll learn how to think about cloud architecture, recognize when to use each major service, and design systems that scale and stay available. Hands-on exercises walk you through the AWS console with the same patterns you’ll see in production environments.

What you’ll learn

  • The cloud service models — IaaS, PaaS, SaaS — and when to choose each
  • Core AWS services: EC2 for compute, S3 for storage, RDS for databases
  • AWS Global Infrastructure: regions, availability zones, edge locations
  • High-availability and fault-tolerant architectures
  • Security best practices: IAM, VPC design, encryption, audit logging

Who is this for

Aimed at developers, sysadmins, and technical leaders who want to understand the cloud beyond marketing slides. Existing AWS users wanting to fill knowledge gaps and engineers preparing for AWS certifications will both find this useful. No deep networking experience required.

Prerequisites

  • Comfortable with the basics of the command line
  • Familiarity with how web applications and databases work
  • A free AWS account (the free tier is enough for everything in this course)

Course outcomes

By the end you can architect simple cloud applications using EC2, S3, and RDS, design for availability across multiple AZs, and follow current AWS security best practices. You’ll also have the foundation to pursue the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate.
